Another impression of Brazil

The film “Cidade de Deus” as known in english like City of God was directed by Fernando Meirelles. This film is a mix of violence with reality, but the mix is not made by Meirelles. The mix of violence and reality is the real life of some people in Brazil. The people that lives in communities in a kind of montains of Rio de Janeiro, as known as “favelas”.

During the film, Meirelles shows the life of two boys. One boy is a good student and had the dream of someday being a photograph. The other one is a bad guy in another way of life, he is always in danger running from death.

It is a very nice film and you need to watch it. It will help you to understand how is the better way of life, how a dream is possible, even in the hard situations. The film received four Academy Award nominations in 2004: Best Cinematography (César Charlone), Best Directing (Meirelles), Best Editing (Daniel Rezende) and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) (Mantovani). Before that, in 2003 it had been chosen to be Brazil’s runner for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but it was not nominated to be one of the five finalists.

Go ahead and see it, I am sure that you wont forget it anymore. Like the picture says, It is irresistible, an exuberant chronicle of crime.

O Xangô de Baker Street

O Xangô de Baker Street was released in English as A Samba for Sherlock. It is a book written in 1995 by the brazilian author, comedian, and talk show host, Jô Soares. In 2001 it was made the movie of the same name.

The story is ocurring in Rio de janeiro, 1886. Actress Sarah Bernhardt performs at the city’s Municipal Theater, captivating the local audience enthralled by the French culture. The city is at her feet, and even the Emperor Dom Pedro II comes to pay his respects. He confides a secret to her: the disappearance of a precious “Stradivarius” violin presented by him to the charming widow Baroness Maria Luiza.

The actress suggests to the monarch that he hire her friend, the legendary British detective Sherlock Holmes to solve the case. Subsequently, a brutal murder shocks the city, and leaves the police superintendent Mello Pimenta: a prostitute had been killed and mutilated, her ears cut off and a violin cord strategically placed on her body by the perpetrator. Later, under the heat of the tropical sun, the lives of Holmes and Dr. Watson are changed forever, as they find themselves neck-deep in a cultural milieu that portrays all standard Brazilian stereotypes.

In elapsing of the Sherlock book it visits a place of fetichism of umbanda and it is knowing that he is son of Xangô, from there comes the name of the romance. The book has a plot that it obtains to arrest the attention for the police character and at the same time in them amuses for the component comic actor extremely, being of easy reading. At last, a romance to laugh.

The City that I see

 I live in Goiânia city. In this essay I gonna talk a little bit about my city. The city that I love. And say somethings about what I feel when I think of Goiânia.

Goiânia is a planned city founded on October 24, 1933 by Pedro Ludovico . Is the capital and the largest city in the state of Goiás with a population of nearly 1.3 million people living together. I can say together because all the city is joined one by one sector. It is not like Brasilia. There, we have a lot of sectors, but is a little bit moved away a sector from another.The city has one of the largest numbers of cars per person in the country, which causes large traffic problems. It also has one of the largest numbers of motorcycles per person, including moto-taxis.

I can see a Goiania that is growing every day, I can see a city with a very good people. People who wants to win in their lifes walking in the right way. Of course we have a few violence and criminalism, but it is insignificant if we compare this with a lot of qualities that we have here. Here, the nature combines with the buildings and the buildings combines with the nature. Here, we have the most beautiful sunrise and the best soccer in the “centro-oeste” region.

If it continues like that, Goiania will be the best city in this country. With the best lifes quality, with the bests jobs and with the best things to sell. Keep Going Goiania! We can be all this as soon as we start to think in our future. Sometimes we go to wrong ways, but fastly we are back again to the right way. The way of the future.

Hurry up!

Let me talk about something that happens every day, every hour, every city, every place. So many people are living like a fast car. They do everything against the time, and they forget so many things with this way of life. They forget their family, their own time, their time to think about their life and future. 

Who is used to live like this, usually gets a little crazy and lost with problems in this routine, living like this, the person can do everything without thinking about the reasons for that and for It´s consequences. In this case, the person stay in a bad life.

For example, I have to study at the university in the morning, at evening I stay for seven hours at work and I arrive at home about 8:00 PM. It is very boring and exausting live in this situation, but is the life, the life is like a train, we have to take it and never leave it.

This situation complicates the study, the health and the relationships but I have to do everything at the same time. Work, study, study and study more at night. We have to hurry up with everything and cannot conplain because we have just this option.

Bilions of people are living in this situation, and about you? can you stop for two minutes and answer this question for me?

The history of football                 

     According to FIFA, the “very earliest form of the game for which there is scientific evidence was an exercise of precisely this skilful technique dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC in China”. Various forms of football were played in medieval Europe, though rules varied greatly by both period and location.

The modern rules of football are based on the mid-19th century efforts to standardise the widely varying forms of football played at the public schools of England. In that time, the football was becoming the most popular activity.

The first official international football match was in 1872 between Scotland and England in Glasgow, again at the instigation of C. W. Alcock. England is home to the world’s first football league. Millions of people regularly go to football stadiums to follow their favourite teams, while billions more watch the game on television. A very large number of people also play football at an amateur level.

Here In Brazil, the football is the most popular sport and it moves millions of “reais” per year. We have the best championship of the world called here as “Campeonato Brasileiro”(Brazilian Champioship). With the “Campeonato Brasileiro”, clubs from many states can play and try to win the trophy. The most wanted is the First division trophy, because in the first division we have the bests clubs from brazil, including one from the picture above. It is from my region called Goias Esporte Club. But he never won this trophy, yet. He won the Second division trophy in 1999, but it is easier to win than the first division trophy. We have the Third Division trophy too, but is a very weak championship.

According to a survey conducted by FIFA published in 2001, over 240 million people from more than 200 countries regularly play football. And it will be raise more and more and more…Until the eternity

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

There was an alien from outer space living near from a river at Mar´s planet. Once time, the water there had dissapeared and he decided to leave his home. He was going to the Earth planet. He wanted to live near from a river, so he choosed the Amazon River.

His name is Marciano and he is 140 years old. But he hide those informations. He had to lie about himself to get a good life in his new planet. Here, his name is Marcio and he is studying at University of Amazonas.He made a lot of friends and was very happy living in his new planet. He knew his love, Renata. He got her heart, but, it was not easy. She did not know the truth about him.

So, it was the first week of the school year and he called Renata to find him at college library. When she arrived, they had started to read a lot of books and he decided to tell her the truth about himself. A secret was almost been told.

“I have to tell you the truth about me, I am an alien.” – Said Marcio.

She got shocked, but the love for him had spoken higher. But now, they are married and very happy living together, but in this planet, only Renata knows the truth about Marcio, or I have to say Marciano?
